THE rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar will be staged next week.

The show, based on Gospel accounts of the last weeks of Jesus’ life will be performed by Dryburn Theatrical Workshop at Park View Theatre, in Chester-le-Street.

The musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice is seen through the eyes of Judas Iscariot, beginning with the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ending with the crucifixion.

Dryburn Theatrical Workshop chairman Lee Passmoor said: “We’re hugely excited to be putting on Jesus Christ Superstar and are really fortunate to have a large and very talented cast and production team to deliver it.

“The show provides powerful drama, songs, music and entertainment for all the family.”

Show times are at 7.15pm from Wednesday June 15 to Saturday June 18.
