A CHILDREN’S entertainer from the region has been performing at an event launched by the Jordanian royal family.

Philip Nelson, from Chester-le-Street, County Durham, performed for youngsters attending Madrasati Initiative schools in the Middle East state.

The scheme was launched by Queen Rania of Jordan to enhance the learning environments in Jordan's neediest schools.

Phil, who is originally from the Garden Farm estate, but has been based in Dubai for four years, does annual charity shows to help the brighten the lives of needy children in the region.

He said: “This year's mission was to again 'share the magic' and entertain as many disadvantaged children who attend.

“The feeling of a child’s smile growing is just so humble and rewarding.

“I have all the time in the world for my little fans and especially those less fortunate. The mission was a huge success.”

Last year, Phil did a charity trip to entertain thousands of Syrian refugee children and performed a show at The Princess Haya Centre in Amman for over a hundred children from local orphanages.

He added: “We are also in discussion with the King Hussain Children's Cancer Centre and are hoping to obtain permission to entertain the children there.”
