MOTORBIKE enthusiasts raised more than £300 for charity with a 109-mile round trip dressed as crusaders.

Generous members of the Geordie Chapter Harley Owners Group (Hog) completed the trip to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance.

Club members set off from Lumley Castle in Chester-le-Street and drove to Alston House Hotel in Cumbria, calling in at Durham Tees Valley Airport on the way home to hand over more than £300 to the air ambulance.

The charity fund raisers say they now place to make the Air Ambulance Crusade Ride an annual event.

Geordie Chapter Director, Barry Gillespie said; “It was another great day out with great people, helping to keep the GNAAS in the skies in and around our area."

Harley-Davidson dealer Jennings has also pledged its support to the GNAAS throughout 2016.

Sohail Khan, director of Jennings Motor Group, said; “We were delighted to hear the Geordie Chapter Hog, who regularly take part in charity events, were taking part in the Crusade Bike Ride event for the GNAAS, which is also our nominated charity for 2016.”

Mandy Drake, head of fundraising at GNAAS, said: “The motorcycling community is hugely supportive of the work of the air ambulance and we are grateful for this latest example of that.

“We rely on donations from the public to survive, and will put this money to good use while flying rescue missions around the region.”
