TWO elderly people have been taken to hospital after being injured in a crash between Chester-le-Street and Stanley on Thursday morning.

A Durham Police spokesman said there had been a two-vehicle collision on the A693 at the roundabout, outside Beamish Museum, at about 10.45am.

Paramedics from the North East Ambulance Service were in attendance.

A 75-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman travelling in a VW Polo have been taken to University Hospital of North Durham after being extricated from their vehicle by firefighters.

There are no details about extent of their injuries.

The second vehicle involved was a Vauxhall Astravan Envoy. 

Stanley-bound vehicles are being diverted through No Place.
