MUMS and grans were treated to a special tea to celebrate Mothering Sunday.
Pupils and staff at Shield Row Primary School, on King Edward VIII Terrace, in Shield Row, near Stanley, served afternoon tea to representatives of 240 families across four sittings on Thursday and Friday (March 3-4).
Head teacher Andrew Knighton said: “It was a wonderful atmosphere in school. It was really quite magical.
“To see the number of children we had here with mums and granmums for a social occasion in the school hall was wonderful.
“These are really important things that can get overlooked in schools with the drive to raise standards in maths and English.”
Year six pupils helped to serve tea and coffee and mothers and grandmothers were given presents of scented candles or chocolates.
Mr Knighton said: “It’s a nice way for us as a school to say thank you to parents and a nice way to celebrate Mother’s Day.”
