COMPUTER courses for older people will be staged after a community centre was awarded a grant.

The Cornerstones Centre for the Community in Chester-le-Street is to stage two new ten-week IT courses for older people after receiving £3,900 from the Santander Foundation.

The donation will also support weekly drop-in sessions to help local people who are looking for work.

The sessions will be led by an experienced tutor who will help with job searches, interview skills and preparing CVs.

Debra Divanis, project development worker at Cornerstones, said: “We cannot thank the Santander Foundation enough for their generous contribution which will make such a big difference to so many peoples’ lives.”

Kim Telford, Chester-le-Street branch manager at Santander, added: “The Santander Foundation makes hundreds of donations every year to good causes throughout the UK.

“Our branch is committed to playing a key part in the community and we are delighted to be supporting Cornerstones Centre for the Community, and hope the donation makes a real difference to local people.”
