AN annual search for talented young musicians has been launched.

The annual competition run by the James Etherington Music Trust and the Rotary Club in Chester-le-Street offers cash awards for young performers to further their musical education,

The Trust was set up in 1978 to commemorate the life of local singer James Etherington, who sang in many London West End shows.

The first prize of £350 and a silver trophy will be presented to the winner at a competition to be held on Saturday, April 23 in the Methodist Church, Market Place, Chester-le-Street, starting at 7 pm.

The runner-up will receive £200 and awards will also be made to other participants.

Members of the public are welcome to come and listen to the performances. Admission is free.

The closing date for applications is February 26.
