A SPECIALLY-WRITTEN pantomime sails into town next week.
Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates is to be staged in Chester-le-Street later this month by Dryburn Theatrical Workshop.
The show has been written by Gateshead-born Tom Whalley, who starred in the popular BBC3 reality series Shoplife and appeared in the recent production of Aladdin at the Sunderland Empire.
It tells the story of Robinson Crusoe, who works in his family’s fish and chip shop and discovers a treasure map on the back of a menu. This leads to fun and adventure on the high seas, involving the fearsome Captain Blacktashe and his pirates, a magical mermaid and Girl Friday’s tropical island.
Malcolm Quinn, Chairman of Dryburn Theatrical Workshop, said: “Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates is a hugely funny and entertaining show for all ages, and provides the perfect opportunity to escape the winter weather and enjoy the Caribbean atmosphere, crazy characters and excellent production.”
The show takes place at the Park View Theatre in Chester-le-Street for a four-day run, starting on Thursday, January 14.
Show times are at 7pm on Thursday and Friday and 6.30pm on Saturday, with a 2.30pm matinee on both Saturday and Sunday.
Tickets are £10 for adults and £9 for children and concessions, with reductions on block bookings available, and can be booked on 07468-607420 or at www.dryburntheatricalworkshop.ticketsource.co.uk.
