A WOMAN who suffers from bipolar anxiety and depression will bring laughter to pub customers when she launches the first in a series of comedy nights.

Simone Wilson who recently took over as licensee at The Shoes in Sacriston, County Durham, will hold the first event of its kind at 8pm on Saturday, January 9.

The firsts evening will feature comedy impressionist Cal Halbert, who was runner-up in Britain’s Got Talent 2011.

Mrs Wilson, 37, said: “I have just taken over The Shoes, which is the last pub in Sacriston.

“I suffer from bipolar anxiety and depression and have not been working for a while, so when the opportunity arose for me to take over the pub I decided to take it and get on - and put something back in.

"So I decided to hold this event to get the people of Sacriston together and raise money for Mind – the mental health charity - at the same time."

Other comedy acts on the evening are master of ceremonies Lee Kyle, Julian Lee and Michael Halford.

There will also be a raffle, with all proceeds going to Mind.

Mrs Wilson said: "I was helped by friends and family along with Billy Mac, who is well known on the club circuit.

“Admission is by tickets only, which are £5 each. People will probably never be able to see Cal Halbert for that price again – as he’s really on his way up on the circuit.”
