STAFF from a supermarket distribution warehouse have helped make Christmas special for a children’s charity.

Worker at the Co-operative Food distribution centre in Birtley donated more than 150 gifts along with three food hampers and £120 that will all help towards Children North East’s work this Christmas.

Carol Taylor, Senior Fundraiser with Children North East, said: "We are so grateful to the Co-operative in Birtley for providing us with so much support. Their help has been incredible.

“Christmas plays a large role in family life and can be the cause of a lot of stress and anxiety for the families and young people we work with, but the Giving Tree Appeal alleviates some of the pressure on them.”

Clare Maclauchlan, Transport Solutions Officer with The Co-operative Food, was delighted with the amount of children they have been able to help through the years.

She said: “We have been collecting for Children North East for a number of years now, but this is most we have ever raised. The response from colleagues has surpassed my expectations.”
