A 13-YEAR-OLD boy has been charged with a public order offence after a lit firework was pushed through the letterbox of a house.
A police spokesman said a lit firework was pushed through the letterbox of a property in Ravensworth road, Birtley, near Chester-le-Street, on Tuesday last week (November 3).
The firework exploded in the hallway of the property and damaged the carpet and furniture inside the house. The firework was extinguished by the occupants before it could catch fire. No-one was injured in the incident.
Inquiries were carried out and yesterday (November 12) a 13-year-old boy from the area was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
He has been released on bail and will appear Newcastle Youth Court on Wednesday, December 2.
