A CORONER has returned a verdict of suicide for a woman whose body was discovered in a four-star hotel.

Alison Stamps, from Ouston, near Chester-le-Street, County Durham, went missing after finishing work in Boots in Bishop Auckland at 11pm on Saturday, May 23.

Her family grew concerned when she did not return home and reported the 33-year-old as missing to police.

Officers checked her credit card transactions and traced Miss Stamps to Hardwick Hall Hotel, near Sedgefield.

Her body was discovered in one of the rooms on Monday, May 25 and police confirmed her death was not suspicious.

An inquest at Crook Civic Centre today (Wednesday, August 26) heard Miss Stamps had received support from her manager at Boots.

However, her family expressed concerns about the amount of training given to Boots staff in supporting employees with mental health problems.

County Durham coroner Andrew Tweddle recorded a verdict of suicide.
