A RANGE of tribute acts have taken part in a North-East music festival over the weekend.

The Fake Festival, featuring artists who imitate The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Foo Fighters and Blondie, was held in Riverside Park, Chester-le-Street, County Durham, on Saturday.

Around 1,800 fans enjoyed the 11-hour show which included some of Britain’s best tribute bands and local support acts, including Just So, The Media Junkies, The Heavy Jets, Outlander and Keep Breathing.

Festival organiser Bec Evans, 33, who is from Durham originally, but now lives in Chester-le-Street, said: “It was fantastic. I can’t believe how lucky we were with that weather. It was sunshine all day and that contributed to atmosphere and the feel of the whole thing.

“People just chill out outside, bring their picnic rug and enjoy a nice day.

“It is the third time we have done it in Chester-le-Street now and has become something of an annual event and people expect it.

“It has become something of an institution.”

There have already been Fake Festival at Tynemouth and Whickham this year and the final one of the season is at Bents Park in South Shields on August 29.
