CHESTER-LE-STREET is to play host to a young people’s music festival.

The event, scheduled to take place next month, will bring together talented young musicians from around the area to showcase their musical talent at the two-day event.

Chesterfest 2015 is an opportunity for local bands and solo artists to perform in front of a live audience while supported by a professional events team.

The festival is being made possible through support from Chester-le-Street and District Area Action Partnership (AAP) and is being hosted by Park View Community Association and Park View School, supported by New College Durham.

Young people were asked for their views on what could be provided locally to make improvements for them and a large percentage said they would like more festival type events to get involved in.

Andrew Megginson, AAP co-ordinator for the AAP, said: “We are calling all young musicians from the Chester-le-Street and surrounding area.

“For anyone who is an aspiring musician or singer or who plays in a band, this is the chance to perform in front of a live audience and gain some valuable experience.

“If you are aged between 11 and 25 then this is an opportunity not to be missed.”

Anyone interested in performing must register their interest by August 31.

The festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday, September 26 and 27 at Park View Community Association, Park View School Theatre, Church Chare.Tickets are available for £1 but must be purchased in advance.
