A PEDESTRIAN has been seriously injured in a car crash.

A 34-year-old man, who has not been named, was rushed to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle following the smash in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, August 2).

A Durham Police spokesman said he suffered various injuries and he was in a serious condition. However, it is not thought his injuries are life-threatening.

Police were called to the B6532 between Durham City and Sacriston, County Durham, shortly before 4am.

The report was of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The man had been struck by a red Ford Fiesta driven by a local woman in her 20s. The driver was unhurt.

The road was closed for around two-and-a-half hours to allow for investigation, with diversions in place via Potterhouse Lane and Trout’s Lane, which link the A691 at Sniperley and the A167 at Pity Me. The B6532 has now reopened to traffic.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information which could assist the Durham Police investigation is asked to call the non-emergency number, 101.
