A CHILDCARE centre is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Selby Cottage Childcare Centre, at The Close East, Chester-le-Street, County Durham hosted a garden party to mark the special birthday on Tuesday (July 21).

Parents and children past and present attended and it was also a celebration for senior childcare officer Elaine Nicholson, who has worked at the centre ever since it opened with just one child back in 1990.

The party also included face painting and afternoon teas.

The centre provides care for around 250 children from its base close to the town centre, offering a teddy bears club for children aged up to two years; the Strawberries group for two- and three-year-olds; Butterflies, Ladybirds, Sunflowers and Busy Bees groups for youngsters aged three to five; and Selby Cottage Kids Club for children aged four to 14.

It offers care before and after school and holiday clubs and has been described as “exceptional” by Ofsted.
