A TEENAGER escaped after being grabbed in the street and inappropriately touched.

Police say the 17-year-old was attacked last night (Tuesday, July 21) as she was walking in Birtley, Gateshead.

The woman screamed and her attacker ran off, chased by two men who were in the area and saw what happened.

The incident happened at around 10.40pm in Birtley Lane, near the Leafield Glade entrance

Officers are now searching for the offender, who is described as being a white, tall and of slim build. He was wearing a grey hooded jogging top with light grey long shorts.

Neighbourhood Inspector Colin Lowther said: "Officers have been in the area since last night carrying out enquiries and speaking to local residents.

“We are appealing for anyone who might have seen this man in the area last night or who might know who he is to contact us with information as soon as possible”.
