SIX young people have been carrying out an expedition in The Pyrenees as part of their attempt to achieve a Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

The youngsters, all from the Chester-le-Street area, raised funds for months to get enough money to be able to take part in the trip.

They completed sponsored runs and sold photographs of local scenery to raise funds to take part.

Elle-Lea Hall, Helena Robbins, Rebecca Duffy, Olivia Duffy, Thomas Kind and Callum Silvester travelled to France with youth workers Ashleigh Downey and David Hardy, who both work for Durham County Council’s One Point service.

They all attend Chester-le-Street Youth Project which works with One Point to deliver the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Ashleigh Downey said: “I am pleased, proud and overwhelmed by the efforts of the young people involved in the expedition.

“It was an amazing opportunity and has provided the whole group with memories which will last a lifetime.”
