A WOMAN has described the moment armed police forced a car off the road before arresting two men this morning.

Police swooped in an operation in Newcastle Road, Chester-le-Street, County Durham, at about 10am.

The eyewitness said: “The police bumped the car off the road and then put a gun in his face screaming get out the car.

“There was dogs and Tasers and guns. They searched the car for an hour, so I'd guess it was drugs related.

"The police shut the road and everywhere around it for half an hour until they got the two lads removed from the scene."

A Durham Police spokesman said: “Two men were arrested this morning by armed police as part of an operation in Chester-Le-Street.

“The men, who are local to the area and in their 20s, were arrested in Newcastle Road in the town at approximately 10am and are currently in custody assisting police with their inquiries.

“The police would like to re assure the local community that there is no on-going threat to public safety we would like to thank the public who may have been in the area at the time for their patience.”
