Airlifted to hospital in seven minutes
A 29-year-old motorcycle rider was airlifted to hospital late this afternoon following a collision with a car near Chester-le-Street.
The man, who is from the South Durham area, suffered severe back injuries in the smash which happened shortly before 3.45pm.
He was treated by paramedics and a doctor at the scene before being flown by the Great North Air Ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle.
His condition was said to be stable on arrival.
