MORE than 1,000 people are expected to take part when a fun run marks its fifth anniversary.

The Lambton Run, organised by Sunderland AFC’s charity arm the Foundation of Light, takes place on Sunday, June 21.

First staged in 2011, the event includes 10k and 3k courses through the private Lambton Estate near Chester-le-Street.

The 10k route, sponsored this year by Nutrition X, takes in the beautiful scenery of the estate, including the magnificent Lambton Castle.

Suitable for families and runners of all ages and abilities, the less-demanding 3k run, sponsored by Sunderland’s junior supporters' club Junior Black Cats, has also proved a hit with participants donning wide range of fancy dress costumes for the fun-themed race.

Event co-ordinator Jemma Garrett, from the Foundation of Light, said: "The Lambton Run has been a tremendous success raising thousands for fantastic North-East causes.

"Starting as a relatively small event the 10k run has become a firm fixture in the running calendar, with almost 800 runners taking on the challenge last year.

"We cannot thank the Earl of Durham and the Lambton Estate enough for their support over the past five years and allowing us access to one of the most secret, iconic locations in the North of England.

"Everyone who takes part in the 10k and 3k say how the event gets better and better every year, with the 2015 runs looking to being the biggest yet”.

Prices for the Lambton 10k run start from £14 per person with places in the 3k fun run starting from £8. To book your place, or for more information, visit lambton.foundationoflight.co.uk call 0191 551 5191 or email events@foundationoflight.co.uk
