FIFTY youngsters from Chester-le-Street primary schools put their best foot forward in a new fun run.

Children from the Red Rose, Cestria and Newker schools covered a one-mile course in the grounds of Park View School last Saturday (April 18).

The Chester-le –Street Fun Run was staged in association with Chester-le-Street Athletics Club and was a pilot for 2015.

The event was hailed a success , with all children completing the run and receiving medals.

It is hoped that a bigger event will be staged again next year with more local children taking part to raise money for charity.

Run organiser Terry Young said: “ The event was only possible with the support of the volunteers and our sponsors Start Fitness, Richardson Designs and the Shepherd and Shepherdess Inn.

“The runners did themselves proud, some of whom were running for the first time. “

Iain Veitch, Headteacher of Park View School, said: “Well done to all the children who took part, we look forward to having you and many more children participating next year. “
