YOUNGSTERS at a village nursery celebrated Spring and the approach of Easter with a special event for their families.

Parents and other relatives were invited along to Edmondsley Primary School, near Chester-le-Street, on Friday (March 27), to watch the school’s nursery children, aged three and four. sport specially-designed Easter bonnets and sing seasonal songs.

The nursery has 20 places and holds morning sessions from 8.45am to 11.45 am and is open in the afternoon from 12.30 to 3.30pm

The school’s headteacher, Angela Rees, said: “Family members were invited to join our Easter celebration at Edmondsley Nursery School. Children sang a selection of Spring and Easter songs beautifully before hats were judged.

“Jayden's hat was the overall winner. He had cut the sheep's eyes very well and explained in much detail how he had created it. Parents were delighted!”

The school was rated outstanding in an Ofsted inspection report. It also won the Care and Conservation category in The Northern Echo School Awards 2015.

Ms Rees said: “If anyone is interested in looking around our well presented grounds and nursery environment, please do not hesitate to contact 0191-371-0443 or visit our website edmondsley.durham.sch.uk/news/"
