A SELF-TAUGHT artist who started painting when her children grew up is holding an exhibition of her work.

Anne Wallace, 77, of Chester-le-Street, County Durham, enjoyed art at school but did not take up the brushes in earnest until she was 40.

She has been a member of Stanley Art Club for a short time and enjoys painting animals, particularly dogs.

She is exhibiting her work in a room at the town’s library in Station Road, until Saturday, March 21.

The exhibition, which opened today (Monday, March 2) features landscapes, seascapes, flowers and animals.

“They are all original paintings done in acrylics and watercolours,” Mrs Wallace said.

“I loved art at school and when the kids grew up I wanted something to do and I started drawing and painting and it took off from there.

“I have had exhibitions before but not for a while.

“I have had a lot of people in to see it today and some nice compliments from people.”

The exhibition opening times vary so people interested in seeing it should call the library on 0845-0000-125.
