POP legends Madness are set to play at the home of Durham County Cricket Club on a 19-date tour of sporting venues.

The band, who have had 15 top ten UK hits and and a number one, famously performed on the roof of Buckingham Palace during the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations two years ago.

On Saturday, September 26, they will perform at the Riverside International Cricket Ground, on the Riverside at Chester-le-Street, the latest big name to play at the famous stadium.

The tour will also see them play Carlisle Racecourse on Saturday, July 4.

Durham have built a reputation for staging big music shows in recent years and have attracted the likes of Sir Tom Jones, Jessie J and Boyzone among others.

Madness were formed in North London in 1976 and became one of the biggest names of the Ska and 2-Tone revival.

They are known for hits such as Baggy Trousers, House of Fun, Our House and My Girl.

“This concert further puts Durham CCC on the map as a leading concert venue in the North East. We are expecting sell out figures of upto 12,000 people to attend the Concert and anticipate that this event will continue to secure the Emirates Durham ICG as one of the regions premier venues for Music.

“Madness are a band of the people, who inject fun into everything they do and the tour promises to be a once- in- a- lifetime opportunity to see one of the greatest bands in the world play at Durham County Cricket Club. “

General admission is £35 and a family ticket (two adults and two children up to the age of 16 ) is £99.

Tickets for the July 4 Carlisle concert also go on sale on Friday and start at £30 for adults and 15 for a child.
