A MAN has been jailed for 13 years after he beat up a woman and then later raped her when she refused to have sex.

Scott Burrell, 26, also began a relationship with a mother-of-one he met on the internet despite being the subject of an indefinite Sexual Offences Order (SOPO), banning him from contact with children.

The order was imposed after he was jailed for 15 months after raping a young girl and committing a sex assault in 2007, Newcastle Crown Court was told.

Gavin Doig, prosecuting, said the woman he met on the internet had a young daughter and alerted police after finding Burrell, of Front Street, Pelton, near Chester-le-Street, was subject to a SOPO.

He then met another woman but after they broke up he turned up at her house and kicked the front door open.

Mr Doig said that in another incident Burrell went uninvited into the home of a woman who barely knew him and picked her up before trying to kiss her.

He then started a relationship with another woman and on August 16 they had sex but afterwards, said Mr Doig, his attitude changed and he beat her up.

Several hours later he asked for sex again and when she refused, he raped her, the court heard.

He then began a relationship with another woman with children, again breaching his SOPO.

Burrell pleaded guilty to rape, assault leading to actual bodily harm, sexual assault, criminal damage, intimidation and two SOPO breaches.

Julie Clemitson, mitigating, said Burrell had shown no sexual attraction to the womens' children.

He was jailed for 13 years and an eight-year restraining order was imposed regarding one of his victims. Burrell was also ordered to pay a £120 victim surcharge.
