A WOMAN pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a car on Lumley Road, Chester-le-Street.

It happened just after 10am on Monday (October 20).

A police spokesman said: “It would appear that the victim, a 44-year-old woman from Chester-le-Street, was crossing the B1284 when she was struck by the vehicle, a black Citroen C4.

“The woman was taken by ambulance to the RVI in Newcastle suffering with back and head injuries.”

The driver of the car, a 32-year-old woman from Stanley, was uninjured.

Any witnesses are asked to call the Durham Constabulary roads policing unit on 101.
