AN exhibition is being held on the impact of the First World War on people in a North-East village.

Pelton Remembered is being held in the village library, now based in the Lavender Centre, until October 3 and looks at how families in and around the village were affected.

Librarian Hilary Miller said: “I have done research into as many of the area’s war memorials as possible, Pelton. Pelton Fell and Ouston.

“I have researched the men, when they died and how they died, and the devastation on the village, how many brothers were lost, how many families were left behind.

“It focuses more on the people and what happened to them than on the war itself.

“I am trying to get as many information as I can from local people and as many relatives as I can.”

“Hopefully it will spark an interest in family history, local history, the war, and using the library.”

Ms Miller added: “The feedback we have had has been very positive.”

Anyone with information can contact Ms Miller at the library, on 03000-269515.

The library is open on Mondays and Thursdays between 2 and 5.30pm, from 9am to 7pm on Wednesdays, and from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.
