A MUSEUM is staging a special event about travel and leisure time in the Edwardian era.
Beamish Museum, between Chester-le-Street and Stanley in County Durham, is holding Edwardians at Play from Thursday (April 3) to Sunday (April 6).
Part of The Great North Festival of Transport, it will feature visiting trams Blackpool 167 and 280 operating alongside the museum’s home fleet, trips on a horse-drawn charabanc and passenger rides aboard a steam train hauled by locomotive Salmon.
Steam locomotive Vulcan will operate on the colliery railway, with the museum’s own Lewin and Coffee Pot locomotives on display.
On Saturday and Sunday, steam engines Isabel and Peter Pan will work on the narrow-gauge railway in the colliery yard.
Beamish will welcome leisure transport, including restored period cars, motorcycles, bicycles, buses and a caravan.
Visitors will be able to take part in football penalty shoot-outs or learn circus skills like juggling and plate spinning and make sandcastles on a beach set up on the events field.
