A VETERAN comedian is to stage a theatre’s pantomime later this year following the success of her debut.

Leah Bell is to mark her 50th year in showbusiness by producing Cinderella at the Empire Theatre, in Consett.

It comes after the success of her first pantomime Dick Whittington, staged at the same venue over Christmas, which saw audience numbers up 20 per cent on the previous year.

Ms Bell, who will write, produce and direct the show, previously appeared in the classic children’s story at Newcastle Theatre Royal.

She said: The last time I appeared in Cinderella was when I starred alongside the great David Jason.

"I’m looking forward to playing a new role this year, and working with the fantastic cast.

We received wonderful feedback after our run at the Empire last year, and so we’re back this year with yet another magical show with something for all ages."

The family show will prove to be a family affair, with the title role going to her niece 17-year-old Harriet Povey.

Also appearing will be Peter Donegan, son of the legendary skiffle musician Lonnie Donegan, comedy magician Damian James and hip-hop dancers Bionik Funk.

Tickets are already on sale, priced £13 for adults and £11 for concessions. For further details, please visit www.leisureworks.net or call 01207 218171.
