VILLAGERS have a dedicated place to sit and reflect on their community’s war heroes after the installation of new memorial benches.

Local Area Action Partnerships arranged them for Croxdale, Sunderland Bridge, Hett, Cassop and Kelloe after residents said they would like to show their respects.

Spennymoor and East Durham Rural Corridor Area Action Partnerships provided funding and used £3,000 from Councillor Jan Blakey’s budget to complete the work.

Jane Bellis, from Durham Rural Corridor, said “2018 is a key year as it marks 100 years since the First World War ended and both AAPs are pleased to support the community by funding a number of commemorative benches in partnership with Croxdale and Hett, and Kelloe parish councils, along with Cassop Community Centre.

“Both parish councils expressed their thanks for the memorial benches which will benefit residents and the community for many years to come.”
