THE Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the County, Malcolm Pratt, has presented Matthew Hewitson and Jack Cumersdale with their Queen’s Badges, the highest award they can gain in the Boys’ Brigade in a ceremony at Lumley Methodist Church.

In order to get the award the youngsters must meet the requirements of the Duke of Silver Award scheme and complete a number of skill and residential courses, as well as fulfilling roles within the church and Boys’ Brigade.

At the same presentation, Aditaya Choudhury was given his President’s Badge, a precursor for the Queen’s Badge. In addition to meeting all the requirements of the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh, the award also has aspects of work within the church and brigade.

Aditaya’s parents joined him at the presentation event, and his grandparents, who were on holiday in the region, were also able to attend.
