RECORD numbers of cyclists turned out for an annual bike ride aimed at getting people to be more active.
Hundreds of cyclists took part in Sunderland’s Big Bike Ride this weekend.
A family ride took place at Herrington County Park while more experienced riders took on 20 and 35 mile routes, starting from St Peter’s Riverside.
Councillor John Kelly, Sunderland City Council’s cabinet member for communities and culture, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people taking part in The Active Sunderland BIG Bike Ride, which has grown into one of Sunderland’s most popular annual events.
“I hope everyone enjoyed it, and that the experience will encourage them to cycle even more regularly and take full advantage of the fantastic cycle paths we have in Sunderland with routes stretching across the city.”
