A PROJECT which brings together young and older people to increase understanding between the generations has been hailed a success.

Residents living Derwentdale Court, Blackhill, and students from Consett Academy have been forming friendships for the last ten weeks.

They have been discussing topics such as money, jobs, housing, relationships, food and IT.

It is part of the Ageless Projects delivered by Karbon Homes at other care homes, including Haven House in Leadgate and Lynwood House in Lanchester.

Residents and students were joined by members of the local community to discuss and learn a wide range of topics to increase the understanding between the generations, to challenge each other’s preconceptions, increase their knowledge and establish friendships that will hopefully continue beyond the project.

Year 12 student Summer Gilhespy said: “I have developed a clearer understanding of life for the older generation today, and it has given me a greater appreciation for their lives, with all the stories they have to tell.”
