ON Saturday, the North-East of England Philatelic Association will be holding its annual stamp fair and convention, the largest event of its kind in the region.

Fourteen stamp and postcard dealers will be attending this year from as far away as Mansfield, Nottingham, Bradford, Liverpool and Grantham. Local dealers will also be present with a range of Great Britain, World and Commonwealth Stamps together with postal history. There will also be a range of postcards for sale.

Valuations can be given and collections bought and sold.

Also on display will be the results of the annual philatelic competition, and this year’s overall winner of the Tennants Trophy is The Railway at Berwick, by Middlesbrough Society, scoring the highest points of all entries.

There will be displays to view on the day with range of subjects from stamps of the Aden States; classic stamps of France; the 1841 Penny Pink Envelope; the Imperial Airways; Christmas Seals.

There will also be a talk and display during the day by Margaret Morris of Glasgow on Astronomy.

The Stamp Fair will be open to the public from 10am to 4pm and is being held at Bowburn Community Centre, Durham Road, Bowburn.

Admission is free and light refreshments will be available. There are disabled facilities and plenty of parking.
