A KEEN hiker is preparing for sponsored walk along the Great Wall of China to raise money for a suicide prevention charity.

Jordan Reay, 22, is flying out to the Far East in May and in aid of the If You Care Share Foundation, which supports the families of people who have taken their own lives.

Mr Reay, who is originally from Witton Gilbert, and lives on a farm in the Durham Moors, said: “Knowing what this charity do is important to me.

“They provide much needed support and workshops about how ‘it’s ok not to feel ok’.

“They promote that talking ‘can save lives’ and aim to promote positive mental health in young people.”

Mr Reay, who works as a civil servant and work in Durham, is walking as often as possible to prepare for his seven day trip.

He is walking around 25 miles across one of the most difficult sections of the wall and will be doing six to eight hours a day.

Mr Reay said: “It is a huge challenge as I have never done anything as big as this before.”
