ALLOTMENT holders have been left frustrated following break-ins over the last two weekends.

In the latest incident, burglars stole two air rifles and pellets from a shed at the allotments in Langley Park, near Durham.

Bev Coult, from the Langley Park Allotment Association, said: “It’s just frustration. People spend a lot of time down there and for some people it’s like a second home.

“It’s the inconvenience of it and the damage that people have had to put right.

“We’ve had it over the last two weekends. We’re hoping that whoever it is will wise up and pack it in.”

The burglary at the allotments in Garden Avenue was discovered on the morning of Saturday, January 13.

It is thought the intruders searched at least six of the allotment sheds and escaped with two air weapons, one of which was a Webley.

The burglary comes just a week after a separate break-in at the same allotments.

On the morning of Saturday, January 6, allotment holders discovered that intruders had got onto the site by climbing a fence during the night.

Burglars caused a substantial amount of damage, kicking off side panels and doors, then cutting a padlock was from a shed door and stealing a tray of tools stored inside.

Police are appealing for witnesses, who are asked to contact PC Liam Norris by calling 101.
