COUNTY Durham Housing Group has awarded £4,939 to Creative Youth Opportunities to deliver a ten-month project, offering participants new skills in areas like video and performance.

More than 30 children in the Deneside area of Seaham are set to get involved from this month.

The project offers the chance for attendees to take a more active role in their community by conducting research for new artwork; and learning more about the history of their surroundings. During the 22 workshops, many of the young people will have the chance to gain an Arts Award qualification. The project will culminate in a public show.

Deneside is one of six communities that have been given priority status by County Durham Housing Group.

Each of the areas will receive funding for projects that will improve opportunities. Horden Crossroads, Gilesgate, West Auckland, Willington and Woodhouse Close in Bishop Auckland are the other priority areas.
