A CITY’S multi-agency hub tackling sexual exploitation has won gold at the Social Worker of the Year Awards just weeks after they picked up their first national award.

The Sexual Exploitation Hub in Newcastle picked up the gold award in the Team of the Year, Adult Services category at the prestigious awards, adding to the top prize they picked up at the Children and Young People Now Awards in December.

The hub supports the victims of sexual exploitation, both children and adults.

The pioneering work of the hub played a key role 82 convictions and over 300 years of imprisonment for perpetrators of sexual exploitation.

The awards highlighted key challenges and strengths that the hub face, including their dedication to transition from children’s services to adults and the determination the staff show to engage with victims and ensure bespoke support is readily available.

Newcastle City Council cabinet member for adult services Karen Kilgours said: “Once again our pioneering Sexual Exploitation Hub has been recognised nationally as one of the leading services tackling sexual exploitation nationally.”
