POLICE are appealing for information after a thief was chased off by someone he tried to burgle.
The suspect smashed the window of an address on Ladore Road, Newcastle, and gained entry to the address, at about 1.20am on Saturday.
The occupant of the address - which is near Ilford Road Metro station - confronted the man in the rear garden before chasing him away in the direction of Gosforth high street.
Inquiries into the incident are ongoing but police are now appealing for anyone who may have seen a man acting suspiciously in the area on Friday night to get in touch.
The man is described as white, aged in his 40s or 50s, of heavy build and with short dark hair. He was wearing what is described as a black donkey style jacket.
There have also been reports that he was trying to gain entry to flats in the same area earlier in the evening.
Anyone who may have seen the man acting suspiciously, or have information about the man responsible, should contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting log 87 09/12/17.
