A MAN has admitted several motoring charges arising from the alleged robbery of a delivery driver.

Phillip Teasdale is accused of the car-jacking of the Chinese man after threatening him with a broken bottle, in Bradford Crescent, Gilesgate, Durham, on August 21.

The Honda Jazz was then said to have been driven off by Teasdale, resulting in a police chase on the A1(M) southwards, onto the A689 eastbound to Sedgefield, ending on the A177 to Stockton.

He is said to have struggled with police on being arrested.

Appearing at Durham Crown Court, via video link from the nearby prison, Teasdale admitted dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, without insurance and resisting a constable.

Further charges of robbery of the delivery driver and possessing an offensive weapon, the broken bottle, in a public place, were not put to the defendant, as the Chinese man has only just been interviewed, because a Cantonese interpreter was required.

Nigel Edwards, for Teasdale, said the defendant would tender his pleas after the defence has studied the transcribed interview.

Mr Edwards also asked for psychiatric and probation background reports to be prepared before Teasdale is sentenced.

Judge Simon Hickey agreed and remanded Teasdale, of Bradford Crescent, in custody until October 3.
