MUSIC fans are being advised tickets are selling fast for the rare chance to see the seminal album, Pet Sounds, performed live in the North-East.

Legendary Beach Boys’ songwriter Brian Wilson will play the record in its entirety, along with many more hits from his back catalogue.

The 74-year-old is in Newcastle city centre on Sunday, August 6, as the headline act closing Live From Times Square.

Pet Sounds, one of the most celebrated albums of all time, was written in response to Rubber Soul by the Beatles.

Wilson, the co-founder of the Beach Boys is currently on a world tour celebrating its 50th anniversary.

He said: “Everywhere we go people love Pet Sounds. It was inspired by Rubber Soul. “Michelle, Girl and Norwegian Wood were the ones that blew me away the most.

“We had to do something different and we did a lot of experiments. That hardest part was getting the background sounds with the musicians, the orchestration.

“We knew we had a good album on our hands but we did not know how people were going to receive it. People got know it over the years.”

Wilson and his band are joined on this tour by former bandmates Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin.

His set starts at 9pm with Seasick Steve, the main support, at 7pm. The gates open at 3pm with performances from The Lake Poets, Cattle and Cane, Lanterns on The Lake and Martha Reeves and The Vandellas.

Organisers have said they expect the show to sell out. Tickets are £45 plus a £4.50 booking fee. They can be booked by logging on to seetickets.com/event/live-from-times-square/times-square/1072974
