THREE people have been taken to hospital after a van overturned on the A690 near Durham.

The road was closed at West Rainton while emergency services attended the three-vehicle collision, which happened on the westbound carriageway at about 11.50am

Durham Police said the collision involved a Peugeot Eurobus taxi, Mercedes Sprinter van and Renault car. 

Three people, including an 11-month-old girl, who were travelling in the taxi, were taken to the University Hospital of North Durham with minor injuries. 


The North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 11.49am.

"We sent two ambulances to the scene and have taken three patients to hospital. We believe they have minor injuries."

The road was reopened at around 1pm.
