A FAMILY of ducklings had a close shave after falling down a drain and getting stuck.
But firefighters managed to rescue the five baby birds and reunite them with their mother.
A crew from Durham attended the rescue near the former DLI Museum at Aykley Heads after being called by the RSCPA.
Crew manager Paul Hartburn said: “The ducks had fallen down the drain and gone up a pipe so we could hear them but couldn’t see them.
“The mother had gone by this time but we dug them out and used one of the nets to get them up into the bucket. Then we found the mother and released them so it was a nice ending.”
The RSPCA was alerted to the ducklings by a member of the public on Saturday, April 15.
