A PEDESTRIAN has been left critically injured after a late night hit-and-run on a country lane.
Police have now issued CCTV of a car suspected to have been involved in the incident near Durham on Easter Sunday.
The victim, a 25-year-old man from Pittington, was left with "substantial" leg injuries after being hit by a car on Hallgarth Lane, between Sherburn Village and Pittington, just after 11pm.
He is reported to have been walking in the road before he was hit by a light-coloured hatchback car, possibly a Volkswagen Golf or Polo.
Police were called, but the car had left the scene and officers say it has yet to be traced.
The victim remains in the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where his condition is described as stable.
Sergeant Sam Turner, of Durham Constabulary, said: "It is extremely important we trace the driver of this vehicle, the victim of this collision sustained substantial leg injuries and is currently in hospital.
"It may be that we eliminate them from our enquiries but I do believe the driver of this car will be able to assist us with the investigation."
