THE achievements and contributions athletes, coaches, clubs and schools have made to disability sport across the region are to be celebrated.

The North East Disability Sports Awards, in association with Active Northumberland, will take place at Slaley Hall Hotel, Northumberland, tomorrow.

Organisers are promising excitement and celebration at what is the event’s14th year.

There are ten award categories for which there have been more than 100 individuals and clubs nominated.

These include young male achieve, young female achiever outstanding club or group, ward, school of the year, participant award, service to sport award, coach of the year, team of the year, male personality and female personality.

The ceremony will include a presentations and entertainment while guests are treated to a meal.

Triple Paralympic Champion Stephen Miller, who is supporting the event through his Community Interest Company ‘SMILE Through Sport’, said: “There are some extremely talented sportspeople in the North-East, and some exceptional clubs, coaches and volunteers who are dedicated to developing opportunities for disabled people to take part in sport. They do fantastic work and I hope a lot of people take the opportunity to nominate them to give them the recognition they deserve.”
