MORE than £2,000 worth of “legal highs” have been seized in police raids.
Nine people have now been charged after officers raided two addresses in Newcastle linked to the supply of the substances and other Class A drugs following a six-month operation to gather intelligence.
More than 200g were seized at a single address, branded with names including Spice, ‘Old Jamaican Extreme and Alabama Wildfire.
A change in the law last year, made the trade in the psychoactive substances illegal.
Eight men, aged between 20 and 55, and a 24-year-old woman have been charged for conspiracy to supply and will appear before Newcastle Magistrates Court on April 7.
A 36-year-old woman was released on police bail.
Superintendent David Felton said: “Lethal highs have a devastating impact on people’s lives”.
He added: “They were made illegal for a reason and we will continue to carry out operations to ensure that products such as these are taken off the streets”.
