POLICE have taken action following concerns over drivers speeding along a newly reopened section of road.
Over the past few weeks Durham Constabulary’s Roads Policing Unit have been giving attention to the section of Leadgate Road, in Leadgate, near Consett.
The new road replacing the old Villa Real railway bridge has, since its opening, being subject of numerous complaints from residents and drivers of the road about vehicles exceeding the speed limit.
During many visits to the road officers have verbally warned over a dozen motorists with regard to their anti-social tendencies to speed.
They have also issued nine drivers with Traffic Offence Reports which carry fines and point and reported a further driver for Court Action.
In addition a further motorist was arrested for failing a road side breath test.
