FESTIVE cheer will come to Durham’s Gala Theatre in a one-off seasonal show.

Comedians and Carols is an adaptation of the traditional Nine Lessons and Carols service including stand-up comedy, live music and sing-a-longs.

Compered by Paul Kerensa, who has written for TV’s Miranda and Dead Ringers, it will also feature Andy Kind, John Archer and Tony Vino.

The show has toured the UK every Christmas since 2008. Durham Business Improvement District (Bid) and St Nicholas’ Church have helped secure a Gala performance on Monday, December 7.

Adam Deathe, business engagement manager at the Bid, said: “Comedians and Carols is an exciting alternative to the traditional Christmas panto, especially for older children and adults.

“With the comedians’ own take on the Christmas story, the show is filled with laughs, making the story of the birth of Jesus Christ accessible to all, even if you’re not overly religious.”

Rev Dr Stephen Bellamy, of St Nicholas’ Church, said: “Comedians and Carols is a fantastic show which helps bring the Christmas story to a modern-day audience.”

The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8.50 for adults, £7 for concessions and children. To book, visit the Gala box office, call 03000-266-600 or go online to galadurham.co.uk
