A SON will remember his late mother at a hospice service.

Paul Donaghy, 47, has been dedicating a light to his late mother Pat at St Oswald’s Hospice’s Light up a Life service each year since the tradition began.

She was a patient at the hospice 25 years ago.

In return for a donation, supporters receive a personalised card containing the name of the loved one they are remembering and a memory star on which they can write a personal message to take to one of the services or hang on a tree at home.

This year the hospice’s services will be at Berwick Baptist Church on Monday, December 14, at 7pm and the Metro Radio Arena on Wednesday, December 16, at 6.30pm.

Mr Donaghy, from Durham, said: “It has become a family tradition and a lovely way to start the Christmas celebrations.

“It’s a very peaceful and thoughtful service mixed with traditional carols, moments of reflection and wonder as the lights on the tree are lit.

“I know that mum would be very proud of us all as we continue to support this wonderful local charity.”
